This is a project you can run for a couple of weeks with one school or a whole year with a number of schools.
Our project was a year long study involving four primary schools and culminating in a "Junior Farmers' Market" in July 2002. The schools ran stalls to experience selling produce they had made in the market. Children from the schools also provided entertainments, designed posters, and wrote press releases for the event. One school conducted a customer questionnaire and used the resulted to practise data handling. They also made a vide documentary about the impact of the farmers market on the life of the town.
At the end of the project, a debate was held for year 6 students at the local Council Chamber, The motion proposed was "This House Prefers to Shop at the Farmers Market"
We would like to thank Eastcombe Primary School, Gastrell's Community School, St Matthews C of E Primary School and Stroud Valley Community School for all their work in developing this project.
Special thanks to local food producers including Duntisbourne Traditional Meats, Kitchen Garden Preserves, Selsley Herb Nursery and Birdwood House Farm for giving up their time for the children.
